Propulsion department

Department Leader

The Propulsion Department is responsible for the design, manufacturing, and testing of the solid propellant rocket motors that power the team’s launch vehicles. Its activity covers the entire development cycle, from conceptual definition and preliminary design to simulation, prototyping, validation, and experimental testing.

All motor subsystems are fully designed in-house and, for the most part, manufactured within the team’s own workshop, relying on external suppliers in cases where available resources do not allow direct production. Given budget constraints, the working philosophy is based on a strong theoretical foundation and rigorous analysis prior to testing.

Design department

Department Leader

In the Design Department, we take care of everything related to the development of our launch vehicles, ranging from aerodynamic optimization and structural simulations to the testing and manufacturing of each component. Our goal is to transform ideas into real solutions, taking concepts from the computer screen all the way to the launch pad. We always strive to carry out as many engineering and manufacturing processes as possible within our workshop.

Over time, we have designed and built several rockets, facing challenges that have taught us valuable lessons (some learned the hard way). Each iteration allows us to grow as a team and refine our skills, infusing every project with the dedication, learning, and spirit that define us. In every launch, not only is the technical effort reflected, but also the passion for continuously evolving our capabilities and knowledge.

Electronics department

Department Leader

The Electronics Department is responsible for the development, design, and production of the various systems required to fly and control a rocket, as well as the ground equipment that supports the project’s development, such as instrumentation for test benches or control stations.

All hardware and software are developed in-house, tailored to the needs and requirements of each project, while always building upon pre-existing solutions to minimize costs.

Simulation department

Department Leader

The Flight Dynamics department is responsible for predicting, analyzing, and controlling every phase of the rockets journey to ensure a safe and precise mission.

Our main activities include trajectory analysis and Monte Carlo simulations to design optimal flight paths and assess the effects of variables like wind, mass changes, and engine performance, using our in-house high-performance C++ tool, LEEMON. We also develop Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms that allow the rocket to determine its position and adjust its course autonomously, and perform Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) validation.

Marketing department

Department Leader

The Marketing Department is responsible for giving voice and visibility to all the work carried out within the project, connecting the team’s innovation and effort with companies, collaborators, and followers. From this department, we manage relationships with sponsors and partner organizations, maintaining and strengthening the partnerships that make LEEM’s growth and the achievement of new goals possible.

We manage the team’s communication and social media presence, sharing daily activities, progress, and achievements, while creating professional content that showcases the project and attracts new members, collaborators, and followers.
